Bogus Competitions
You are
informed that you have won a prize - even though you can't
remember entering a competition - via the post, email, fax or
over the phone.
They invite
you to claim your allocated prize by phoning a hotline number
for which you will be charged at a premium rate of up to
£1.50 per minute.

Charity Collection Cons
People ask you to donate to a
charity by sending collection bags through your letter box or
ask you to donate in the street when they are not really donating
the money to charity and put your donation in their own pocket!

Underweight fruit & veg
Some
unscrupulous traders deliberately rip you off by selling short
weight produce in order to increase their profits. When buying
fresh produce e.g. meat, fish or fruit and vegetables that are
weighed when you buy them, check the weights when you get home
to make sure you haven't been short changed.

Loan Sharks
Loan Sharks are
unlicensed lenders. They operate illegally and will lend you
money when nobody else will, but:
- the
interest will be very high and you may find it difficult to
keep up the repayments
- you
might be forced to get a second loan to pay off the first,
and so on and so on until your debts are out of control;
- they
may turn very nasty if you fall behind with your payments.

- If
something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
- If a
stranger had an ace money making scheme why would they
choose to share it?
