Not Getting What You Pay For?Descriptions – Top Tips
Check out
descriptions carefully – make sure you understand what you are
getting and that it is what you think it is!
Always
read descriptions in
advertisements and on packaging etc. If you misread the
description and it turns out not to be what you want, you might
not be able to return it.
So What Should I Look For?
-
Buying tickets for a
concert? Make sure they are for the band you want to see and
not a soundalike tribute band.
-
Look
out for things that say they are ‘like’, ‘type’ or ‘style’ –
e.g. cottonlike or woodstyle. They are unlikely to actually
be real cotton or wood – just similar to them in look or
feel. That might be ok with you, but
make sure you know.
-
If a
particular feature is important to you, make sure you check
it out before you buy. If it isn’t mentioned on the
packaging or in the advert, ask.
It’s too late to find out after you bought it. BUT remember
that if an assistant tells you something that later turns
out to be untrue, you still have a right to return the
goods. If it’s important, get it written down to prove what
was said.
-
If packaging on
a CD or DVD looks poor quality, it might be a counterfeit
copy. Steer clear
of these as they are unlikely to be good quality and could
even damage your equipment.
-
For
expensive items, such as a new stereo or tv, do some
research
first. Get all the info on the makes you are interested in
and compare the features. Then
shop around for the best price.
-
Check
the internet or magazines for
reviews
on products or shops. These can be useful but remember that
one bad or good review amongst many may not be reliable.
Check out the overall picture.
So remember...
-
Check out products before buying
-
Make sure stuff is not
counterfeit
-
Shop around for the best deal
