Mobile Phone Unlocking
Is it legal to have your phone unlocked? Mobile phone unlocking
lets you use a sim card from any network - what's the problem?
What is
unlocking?
When your
mobile phone is
locked
it means your phone will only work for a specific network
provider or for a particular SIM card. When you unlock your
phone it means you can use
any network
provider or SIM card.
This is giving you the
freedom of
choice
and more flexibility with your phone.
Is it legal?
Unlocking
your phone is 100% legal!
All modern mobile phones have their own
IMEI number,
a 15-digit number that is specific to that phone and that phone
only.
You cannot
have this number changed – that is illegal!
How do you
get a phone unlocked?
If you
visit a network provider
or reputable mobile phone dealer, they
will unlock your phone for a small fee (usually £10-£15). You
may be required to show
proof that you own the phone – this could
be a receipt, showing you brought that specific phone or a
contract agreement.
So
remember….
·
It is
legal to unlock your phone so you can use it on any network.
·
It is
illegal to change the IMEI number of your phone.
·
Take
your phone to a reputable dealer, and take proof of ownership in
the form of a receipt of contract agreement.
